Podiatry
What is podiatry?
Podiatry is a specialized medical service that focuses on diagnosing and treating injuries and diseases of the foot and ankle. Dr. LeBeau is skilled in addressing a variety of conditions that affect your foot and ankle health like:
- Bunions
- Arthritis
- Hammertoe
- Plantar fasciitis
- Bone fractures
- Foot ulcers and wound care
- Ingrown toenails and fungus
Dr. LeBeau is also experienced in diabetic foot care and management plans to protect your foot health.
What can I expect during my initial podiatry appointment?
If you’re experiencing pain or other foot- or ankle-related symptoms, Dr. LeBeau will review your personal and family medical history, as well as your symptoms to pinpoint the problems.
To assess the severity of your condition, Dr. LeBeau does a physical evaluation of your foot and/or ankle, checking for areas of swelling, tenderness, and pain. If your symptoms are unexplained, Dr. LeBeau would then recommend imaging tests like X-rays to get a better look at the inner structures of your foot and/or ankle.
Foot pain that might relate to diabetes will require blood work to measure your blood sugar levels. If your toenails are painful or inflamed, Dr. LeBeau can visually assess the health of your nails to determine if you have an injury or infection.
Test results provide Dr. LeBeau with the information he needs to create your care plan.
What podiatry treatments are available?
Dr. LeBeau is experienced in a variety of nonsurgical treatments for a variety of foot and ankle conditions. He offers in-office diagnostics like blood work and X-rays to quickly identify the issues that are causing you pain or interfering with your mobility.
Dr. LeBeau is also skilled in the latest foot and ankle care technologies, including the Cutera® Genesis® laser system for treating toenail fungus.
To correct many foot disorders, Dr. LeBeau can recommend custom orthotic inserts for your shoes to ensure a better fit than over-the-counter inserts can provide.
If you’re looking for an experienced podiatrist for diabetic foot care management or have unexplained foot or ankle pain, schedule a consultation at St. Augustine Foot, Ankle & Vein today. You can book online or by calling the office.
